Pikkola is a small collection of tools that do one thing well and run entirely in your browser. No accounts, no uploads, no dashboards to keep alive.

What Pikkola Diff does

It compares two versions of a text and shows what changed: which lines were added, which were removed, and — inside a rewritten line — which words actually differ. It reads code, configuration, JSON, CSV, Markdown or plain prose, and it produces a unified patch you can attach to a ticket.

Why it has no server

Most tools of this kind send both files to a server to compare them. That is a reasonable engineering shortcut and a bad fit for the material people actually compare: client contracts, environment files, unpublished writing, source code under an NDA. A comparison is arithmetic, and modern browsers are good at arithmetic, so this one happens on your device. The page is a set of static files; after it loads it sends no requests.

The practical consequence is stated plainly on the front page: closing the tab ends the comparison. The only exception is a link you deliberately create, which encodes the two versions after the # in the address — the part a browser never transmits.

How it is built

Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The comparison engine is a long-common-sequence matcher with common-prefix and common-suffix trimming, plus a word-level pass inside changed lines. There is no framework, no analytics, no cookie, and no third-party request — which is also why the page works offline once opened.

What it is not

It is not a git client: it does not know about history, branches or blame. It does not store your files, and it cannot recover them after the tab is closed. It compares text, so binary files such as images, PDFs and archives are out of scope.

The other tool

Pikkola Time finds the hour that works for a meeting spread across time zones. Same principle: useful, private, and small enough to open in a tab.

Pikkola Diff가 하는 일

두 버전의 텍스트를 비교해 무엇이 바뀌었는지 보여 줍니다. 어떤 줄이 추가되고 삭제되었는지, 그리고 고쳐 쓴 줄 안에서 실제로 어떤 단어가 달라졌는지까지 표시합니다. 코드, 설정 파일, JSON, CSV, 마크다운, 일반 문서를 모두 읽고, 티켓에 붙일 수 있는 통합 패치를 만들어 줍니다.

서버가 없는 이유

이런 도구는 보통 두 파일을 서버로 보내 비교합니다. 구현은 간단하지만, 사람들이 실제로 비교하는 자료에는 맞지 않습니다. 고객과의 계약서, 환경 변수 파일, 아직 공개하지 않은 원고, 비밀유지계약이 걸린 소스 코드 같은 것들입니다. 비교는 결국 계산이고 요즘 브라우저는 계산을 잘하니, 이 계산은 기기에서 합니다. 페이지는 정적 파일 묶음이고, 로드된 뒤에는 어떤 요청도 보내지 않습니다.

그 결과는 첫 화면에도 적어 두었습니다. 탭을 닫으면 비교가 끝납니다. 유일한 예외는 직접 만든 링크이고, 그 링크는 두 버전을 주소의 # 뒤에 담습니다. 브라우저는 그 부분을 서버로 보내지 않습니다.

만든 방식

순수한 HTML, CSS, 자바스크립트입니다. 비교 엔진은 앞뒤가 같은 부분을 잘라낸 뒤 최장 공통 부분 수열로 줄을 맞추고, 바뀐 줄 안에서는 단어 단위로 한 번 더 비교합니다. 프레임워크도, 분석 도구도, 쿠키도, 외부 요청도 없습니다. 한 번 열어 두면 오프라인에서도 동작하는 이유입니다.

이 도구가 아닌 것

git 클라이언트가 아닙니다. 이력이나 브랜치, blame을 알지 못합니다. 파일을 보관하지 않으며, 탭을 닫은 뒤에는 되살릴 수 없습니다. 텍스트를 비교하는 도구라서 이미지·PDF·압축 파일 같은 바이너리는 다루지 않습니다.

Pikkola Time은 시간대가 다른 사람들과의 회의에 맞는 시간을 찾아 줍니다. 원칙은 같습니다. 쓸모 있고, 사적이고, 탭 하나에 열 만큼 작게.

Pikkola Diff がすること

2つの版のテキストを比較し、何が変わったかを示します。どの行が追加され、削除されたか、そして書き換えた行の中では実際にどの単語が違うかまで表示します。コード、設定ファイル、JSON、CSV、Markdown、文章を読み、チケットに添付できる統合パッチを作ります。

サーバーがない理由

この種のツールは通常、2つのファイルをサーバーに送って比較します。実装は簡単ですが、人が実際に比較するものには向きません。顧客との契約書、環境変数ファイル、未公開の原稿、NDA のかかったソースコードなどです。比較は計算であり、最近のブラウザは計算が得意なので、この計算は端末で行います。ページは静的ファイルの集まりで、読み込み後は一切のリクエストを送りません。

その結果はトップページにも明記しています。タブを閉じれば比較は終わります。唯一の例外は自分で作ったリンクで、そのリンクは2つの版をアドレスの # 以降に含みます。ブラウザはその部分をサーバーに送りません。

作られ方

素の HTML、CSS、JavaScript です。比較エンジンは、共通の前後を切り落としてから最長共通部分列で行を対応づけ、変更された行の中では単語単位でもう一度比較します。フレームワークも解析も Cookie も外部リクエストもありません。一度開けばオフラインでも動く理由です。

そうではないもの

git クライアントではありません。履歴やブランチ、blame は扱いません。ファイルを保存せず、タブを閉じた後に復元することもできません。テキストを比較する道具なので、画像・PDF・アーカイブなどのバイナリは対象外です。
